Parts Tier List & Evaluation

The shop in [ENDLESS] Build a Boss is noisy on purpose. taapr studios wants you buying guns, lasers, and armor parts, assembling a boss, and iterating across 75 levels and 10 zones. This page teaches a role-based tier framework so you can grade whatever appears in your shop today. We use category labels—Starter Gun, Burst Laser, Beam Laser, Plate Armor—as evaluation buckets, not as claims of official exclusive names.

Meta shifts with patches. Letter grades below are guidance for early / mid / late framing. Always read live tooltips. Pair with Best Builds, How to Build a Boss, and the Tier List Hub.

Evaluation rubric (use every time)

Score a candidate part 1–5 on each axis, then total:

  1. Damage contribution — Does it kill faster in your current zone?
  2. Pattern fit — Guns for raw DPS races; lasers for pierce/line; armor for spike/chip.
  3. Efficiency — Power per cash or gem.
  4. Synergy — Helps your archetype instead of fighting it.
  5. Opportunity cost — What else could that currency buy right now?
TotalTier
22–25S — buy if it fits the plan
18–21A — strong default
14–17B — situational
10–13C — filler / skip unless broke on options
≤9D/F — clutter

A laser can be S-tier on a dense level and B-tier on a sparse DPS check. Context is the real tier list.

Role category: Guns

Job: Primary damage. Early pieces are Starter Gun roles; later pieces are higher-output gun roles.

Early (zones ~1–3)

  • S/A: Affordable guns that noticeably shorten fights.
  • B: Tiny upgrades that barely move clear time—only buy with spare cash.
  • Skip: Ultra-expensive guns that bankrupt armor funding.

Mid (zones ~4–7)

  • Guns remain the backbone of Glass Cannon and Balanced Fortress.
  • Prefer upgrades that scale with your existing gun layout over random one-off toys.
  • If clears are slow but you live easily, gun roles rise in priority.

Late (zones ~8–10)

  • Guns still win raw DPS races if you survive.
  • Compare gun upgrades vs laser pierce for the specific late pattern.
  • Re-tier after patches—do not assume last week’s gun is still efficient.

Gun fail signal: You time out, drag fights, or lose stars to slow clears despite healthy HP.

Role category: Lasers

Job: Pierce and line pressure. Evaluate as Burst Laser (chunky intermittent hit) or Beam Laser (sustained line) based on tooltip behavior.

Early

  • Situational A/B. Add when packs stack or frontliners body-block back damage.
  • Not mandatory on every early stage.

Mid

  • Often S/A on density walls.
  • Laser Piercer archetypes come online here (Best Builds).
  • Placement matters as much as stats—see Controls and build guide lanes.

Late

  • Frequently required for clean stars when enemies layer.
  • Still not automatic—if a stage is a pure HP sponge single target, guns may outpace.

Laser fail signal: Front enemies die while backline chews your armor; or beams fire into your own plates.

Role category: Armor

Job: Survive chip and spikes. Think Plate Armor roles at every budget tier.

Early

  • Buy enough to finish—usually A-tier value until you stop dying.
  • Over-armoring into C-tier efficiency if fights become endless.

Mid

  • Scale plates with spike frequency.
  • Fortress builds treat armor as co-equal with guns.
  • Glass Cannon keeps armor minimal—high risk.

Late

  • Under-armored bosses brick star attempts.
  • Armor that does not address the damage type you actually take is a false upgrade—verify by watching what hurts you.

Armor fail signal: Deaths in the first third, or star losses from empty HP bars despite okay kill speed.

Composite early / mid / late priority lists

These are role priorities, not item names:

Early shopping order

  1. Starter Gun role (must have damage)
  2. Plate Armor to survive a full clear
  3. Optional Burst/Beam Laser if packs demand it
  4. Second gun or second plate—based on last fail mode

Mid shopping order

  1. Deepen archetype core (gun or laser lead)
  2. Matching armor for the zone’s spike profile
  3. Secondary role only if checklist shows a hole
  4. Gem spends only on true breakpoints

Late shopping order

  1. Fix the role that failed the last two pushes
  2. Re-balance for stars (DPS vs HP)
  3. Scrap clutter; rebuild clean
  4. Recheck patch notes / tooltips

Worked examples (criteria in action)

Example A — Died early on a mid level Armor axis scores high need. Buy Plate Armor or reposition plates before touching gems for a fancy gun.

Example B — Lived forever, 1 star Damage axes failed. Upgrade gun role or add laser; do not buy more plates.

Example C — Front dies, back lives Laser axes spike. Buy/align Burst or Beam Laser; confirm lanes (How to Build).

Example D — Patch Tuesday Re-score your three core parts with the rubric. If totals crater, farm (farming guide) and rebuild.

What we refuse to publish

  • Invented “Mythic Plasma Sovereign Cannon” style fake databases
  • Permanent S-tier lists that ignore zones
  • Gem dump recommendations without a named problem

If creators publish datamined names, still run the rubric—names are not tiers.

Tie-ins

Grade parts like an engineer: name the job, score the axes, buy the fix. That habit beats memorizing someone else’s screenshot inventory every time the shop rotates or a patch lands.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Quick answers for Build a Boss players.

What is the best part in Build a Boss?

There is no single best part. Score candidates with the damage, pattern fit, efficiency, synergy, and opportunity-cost rubric for your current zone.

Should I always buy lasers?

No. Lasers shine on dense or layered spawns. Sparse DPS checks may favor guns. Let the last fail mode decide.

Why use role names like Plate Armor?

They are evaluation categories so advice stays useful when shop labels change. Always trust in-game tooltips.

How often should I re-tier parts?

After each major patch and whenever you enter a new zone band (early → mid → late).
