Build Checklist

Use this Build Checklist before serious attempts in [ENDLESS] Build a Boss. It turns taapr studios’ loop—assemble guns, lasers, and armor; fight; earn cash and gems; chase stars—into a short pre-flight. Works for early hybrids, mid archetypes, and late adaptations across 75 levels and 10 zones. Pair with Parts Tier, Best Builds, and How to Build a Boss.

Keep this page open on a second screen or copy the markdown boxes into your notes. There are no codes to shortcut gear—discipline is the tool (Codes Hub).

How to run the checklist

  1. Fill Target & fail mode first—never shop blind.
  2. Set a currency budget so gems stay protected.
  3. Tick role balance against your archetype.
  4. Verify placement & controls.
  5. Pass the go / no-go gate before pressing fight.
  6. Write after-action notes even when you win.

Skip steps only on trivial farm repeats. For walls and stars, run the full list.

1) Target & fail mode

  • Target level / zone band named (early · mid · late — see Zones)
  • Goal selected: first clear · farm · 3 stars
  • Last result noted (win/loss + star count if any)
  • Primary fail mode picked (only one):
    • Not enough DPS (guns)
    • Need pierce / line clear (lasers)
    • Spike or chip deaths (armor)
    • Piloting / controls mistake
    • Economy—cannot afford the fix yet
  • Success definition written in one sentence

If fail mode is economy, stop and farm (Cash & Gems Farming) before buying.

2) Currency budget

  • Current cash known
  • Current gems known
  • Max cash to spend this attempt set
  • Gems locked unless a named breakpoint exists
  • “No tilt buys” rule accepted (60-second pause after losses)
  • Farm level identified if the push fails twice

Breakpoint test for gems: Will this purchase change my archetype’s identity power, not just add +1 clutter? If no, use cash or farm more.

3) Role balance (guns / lasers / armor)

Score each role mentally with the Parts Tier rubric axes you need.

Guns

  • At least one active Starter / upgrade Gun role contributing damage
  • Barrels face the fight; not buried behind plates
  • DPS sufficient for the goal (clear vs star speed)
  • Gun upgrades preferred over random toys when fail mode is DPS

Lasers

  • Decision made: laser required · optional · not this fight
  • If required: Burst / Beam Laser role owned
  • Beam path crosses spawn lane / dense line
  • Not firing into own armor
  • Pierce need revalidated after last attempt

Armor

  • Plate Armor covers the real hit face
  • Enough effective HP for goal (stars need cleaner HP)
  • Not so much armor that clears crawl (farm speed death)
  • Soft core / middle protected if applicable

Identity

  • Archetype named: Glass Cannon · Balanced Fortress · Laser Piercer (Best Builds)
  • Every part serves that identity or a single flex slot
  • Clutter parts marked for scrap on next rebuild

4) Placement & controls sanity

  • Build UI zoomed enough to avoid mis-sells (Controls)
  • Movement feels responsive on this device
  • Camera / zoom shows threats and silhouette
  • No accidental menu binds mid-fight
  • Smoke-test planned on an easy level if rebuild was large

5) Go / no-go gate

Proceed to the push only if most boxes below are true:

  • Fail mode has a matching fix already applied (buy or reposition)
  • Budget respected
  • Archetype still readable at a glance
  • Not emotionally tilted
  • For stars: level already clearable without coin-flip deaths
  • For zone walls: farm funds available for two retries

No-go actions: farm block · full rebuild · take a break · read Getting Started if fundamentals are fuzzy.

6) After-action report (60 seconds)

  • Result logged (clear / fail / star count)
  • Did the chosen fail mode actually matter? yes / no
  • Next single change chosen
  • Checklist restart or swap to farm workflow (Tools Hub)

Quick templates

Template — First clear

Focus armor enough to live, guns enough to finish, laser only if packs demand. Skip gem spends. One fix per two fails.

Template — Cash farm

Lock archetype. No experimental parts mid-block. End with one purchase max.

Template — Three-star push

Bias DPS and damage-taken reduction. Confirm clearability first. Cap attempts; protect gems.

Template — Post-patch

Re-tooltip core parts. Scrap dead weight. Re-pick archetype. Farm before hero pushes.

Optional extended checklist (power users)

  • Zone band progress note updated
  • Star backlog list updated
  • Screenshot of boss silhouette saved for comparison
  • Shared tip drafted for friends without spoiling thresholds (Players Hub)
  • Patch date noted if something felt newly strong/weak (Updates)

Run this checklist until it feels automatic. When buying guns, lasers, and armor becomes a short interrogation instead of a shopping spree, zone walls stop feeling random—and your cash actually turns into clears.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Quick answers for Build a Boss players.

Do I need to tick every box every fight?

Use the full list for walls and star pushes. Short farm repeats can use a lighter pass, but still name a fail mode when you die.

What if I fail the go/no-go gate?

Farm, rebuild, or take a break. Pushing while tilted or underfunded usually wastes cash.

Can I use this on mobile?

Yes. Keep the page open in a browser tab and scroll between fights. Zoom the in-game build UI before selling parts.

Does this checklist replace the tier list?

No. Use Parts Tier and Best Builds to decide what to buy; use this checklist to apply the decision cleanly.
